Abstract
Objective: To evaluate evidence of validity and reliability of the Stoma-QoL questionnaire to measure quality of life in Chilean patients with colostomy or ileostomy. Material and method: Methodological validation study in patients treated at Hospital Regional Guillermo Grant Benavente. Content validity was assessed by an expert panel, face validity in participants, and construct validity through confirmatory factor analysis; internal consistency was estimated using Cronbach’s alpha. Data were collected in REDCap and analyzed using R 4.3.4.
Results: Five experts participated in content validity, yielding a content validity index of 0.95. Face validity was assessed in 136 participants, with 100% agreement across all items. Construct validity included 183 participants (93 men, 50.8%, and 90 women, 49.2%). Colostomy was observed in 131 (70.8%) and ileostomy in 54 (29.2%). No complications were reported by 82 (44.1%); the most frequent were hernia 44 (23.7%), pain 22 (11.8%), and other complications 31 (16.7%). Internal consistency was 0.90 for 20 items. The bifactor model showed CFI 0.832 and RMSEA 0.083 (90% CI: 0.072–0.095); after removing three items, indices were CFI 0.843 and RMSEA 0,090 (90% CI: 0.076–0.104).
Discussion: The instrument showed high content validity, excellent face validity, and high internal consistency; confirmatory factor analysis supported a bifactor structure with similar fit after removing three items.
Conclusion: The Stoma-QoL showed adequate psychometric properties in the studied sample.
